Spinning Babies®

Spinning Babies® is a physiological approach to preparing for and caring for birth. It is based on the understanding that babies descend through the pelvis by turning to fit each curve in the passage. Baby's turns are “fetal rotation.” If fetal rotation can be made easier, birth is easier for everyone.

Spinning Babies® was created by midwife Gail Tully. It offers a third perspective to the “natural vs. managed” childbirth debate. Spinning Babies® recognizes that birth is a physiological process, but it also acknowledges that sometimes we need more than trust and time. Spinning Babies® teaches parents and providers how to work with the body's natural physiology to support a smoother, easier birth.

Spinning Babies® offers a variety of techniques to help babies find their optimal position for birth. These techniques include:

  • Daily activities, such as forward-leaning inversions and pelvic tilts
  • Body balancing techniques, such as knee-chest position and side-lying release
  • Smarter birth positions, such as upright and hands-and-knees

Spinning Babies® techniques can be used throughout pregnancy and labor. They can help to reduce pregnancy discomfort, support optimal fetal positioning, and ease the progression of labor.

Here are some of the benefits of Spinning Babies®:

  • Reduced pregnancy discomfort
  • Optimal fetal positioning
  • Easier labor progression
  • Reduced need for interventions
  • Increased satisfaction with the birth experience

Spinning Babies® is a safe and effective approach to birth that can benefit both parents and babies. If you are interested in learning more about Spinning Babies®, you can visit the website or find a Spinning Babies® Certified Parent Educator near you.
